Over the years, the consensus politics of the early post WW2 years has been replaced by the
innate greed and selfishness of Right-wing ideology, alarmingly characterized by the chilling statement –
‘there is no such thing as society‘
Conservative PM. (1987)
Pernicious, divisive and self-seeking, the few continue to pursue Right-wing ideology with ever-increasing openness, relish and determination.
Such that Capitalism is allowed the freedom to operate outside the bounds of social and environmental responsibility.
Listen up, Joe Public!
The most extreme Right-wing fanatics ever to exercise power over UK society are using it in a manner more akin to totalitarian rule rather than a democracy. Ignoring and brushing aside all objection and criticism by qualified professionals to their plans for the NHS, policing, social housing, the disabled, public and social services. Hell bent on imposing ‘their way‘. A way based on the status quo of a bygone age – at odds with the values, senses and morality of 21st century society.
If society does not soon confront and reject the nightmare of Right-wing ideology it will find itself inextricably snared in the portfolios of global corporations, at the tender mercy of profit driven, free marketeers. And, as with water, gas, electricity, rail and public transport, what remains of the fabric of a decent society – privatized and foreign owned.
Huge chunks of public assets, as in yours and mine, sold off at knock-down prices. Council run schools and academies handed over to private individuals – receiving more money from the public purse than the previously run council schools.
Society, taken to its knees by – was it really the bad judgement of shrewd, hard headed bankers?
How fortuitous for the Right, the setting to unleash measures effectively bringing the many to heel, while leaving the few – hard headed bankers included – free to prosper?
All in this together? What a sick joke! The only people laughing are the few, the bankers and the Tory Government. Laughing at how easily society is fooled, misled and manipulated.
Things to Ponder:
It is all too easy for the politically undiscerning not to ‘hear’ what the Tories are really saying. There is the need to distinguish between their rhetoric and their intent. Indeed, if there’s one thing I have learned in all my years it is never to trust the Tories – even when their lips aren’t moving.
When it comes to industrial relations, the only real power open to ordinary people – as a last resort, is the right to withhold their labour. In a world dominated by corporate capitalism and big business, restricting such right through repressive legislation would be akin to forced labour and pandering to the demands of the Right.
Small wonder it is championed by those opposed to any kind of people power.
When dialogue, fairness, reason and justice fail – extremism beckons. In what amounts to the further strengthening of the stranglehold the FEW have over society and the life of ordinary people, the attack, vilification and demonizing of trade unions, started in the Thatcher years and continued in earnest today by an ideologically driven Right, has chilling parallels to that of history’s extreme regimes.
Lies, exaggeration, allusion, misinformation, guile and stealth – the stock-in-trade of propaganda. Ever since the end of WW2 the Tory propaganda machine has pulled out all of the stops misrepresenting socialist values, when the reality is, nothing it would have you believe could be further from the truth – then, since or now!
WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING MONEY AND HANGING ON TO IT, THE FEW HAVE NO SCRUPLES – AS WITNESS THE MURKY WORLD OF TAX HAVENS AND OFFSHORE BANKING. COURTESY OF AND LEGALISED BY THE VERY SAME ‘FEW’!
AS FOR THE STATUS QUO – rooted and locked in a bygone age, the deceit, corruption and manipulative double dealing of the FEW now stands exposed for all the world to see. All it needs is the added weight of public opinion to bring about its collapse.
The melting pot of society:
In the melting pot of people that makes up society, no individual or job is more important than another. Where they differ as individuals, is in ability and aspiration. With jobs, it is in the knowledge, skills, education and responsibilities that go with it.
That said, there is obscenity in a system that, by design, allows the few to accumulate huge wealth while, through no fault of their own, many of the many that create wealth are made to go through life deprived of any realistic opportunity to provide a truly fulfilling life for themselves and their families.
Such will remain the case until society views the obscene inequality endemic in a status quo rooted and locked in a bygone age – as repugnant. Demanding it be replaced by a system more equitable and in keeping with the values, senses and morality of 21st century.
A system that, in whatever capacity, all able and willing to pull their weight are entitled to a wage that adequately covers all the essentials of a fulfilling life. Likewise, all those who, for whatever reason, are genuinely unable to play their part.
It won’t be easy. Inevitably, the few will scoff at such and fight it tooth and nail. But it can be made to happen if society gets behind it with enough resolve, vigour and determination.
I would emphasize – this is about changing mind-sets, not overthrowing; sharing, not taking; serving, not using; fairness, not inequality; unity, not division; hope, not fear; confidence, not despair.
SOCIAL UNITY, not SOCIAL DIVISION
WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A WAY
BUT IT WON’T JUST ‘HAPPEN’
PEOPLE/SOCIETY – HAVE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Control by stealth, wealth and retrogressive politics:
With the industrial revolution came the need to raise capital, heralding the birth of Capitalism which, closely linked to wealth and the banking system, remains controlled by the few.
This, proving to be the ace up their sleeve. Pre-WW2 Capitalism – simply a method of raising funds for business – mutating into post-WW2 ‘Corporate Capitalism’. Becoming the devil incarnate. Putting profit before people. The sham of its so called, ‘trickle-down effect’ – long since exposed.
Succeeding generations brainwashed by Tory media into believing Socialism is bad for society.
This, while Right-wing ideology continues to wreak havoc with the lives, livelihoods, wellbeing and aspirations of the many – destroying the fabric of decent society in the process.
The ill-gotten gains of the few, disappearing into the murky world of tax havens and offshore banking – created by the few, for the few!
Tory retrogressive politics – dragging society back to the future – where inequality abounds and wealth reigns supreme.
The few, continuing to use society as a cash cow to fund their privileged lifestyle.
The threat to democracy:
Driven by Right wing politics, market forces are fast becoming a threat to democracy. Indeed, such is their power, they can destroy economies and bring down governments that stand in their way.
Such power is a threat to democracy. Requiring action on an international scale for it to be reined in. But it can and must be made to happen if fairness and equal opportunity is to become a reality.
A precursor being the peaceful, orderly dissolution of power away from the few, to the grass roots of society. And – for the wellbeing of the whole of society – instead of operating in insular fashion, market forces and Capitalism must be made part of a collective process of deliberation and social choice.
Thankfully, there is the sense Western society is beginning to baulk at the power of the free market.
Even in America, the West’s Mecca to Capitalism, there is growing opposition as more and more become switched on and opposed to the callous, self-serving, destructive nature of free market forces.
Message for the younger generations – especially the 18 to 24s:
Bearing in mind my roots I have enjoyed a reasonably comfortable and fulfilling life, not helped by living under the lingering shadow of Right-wing ideology, an ideology that truly is anathema to fair society.
I have had my time, the future is yours. Don’t allow the few to hijack it by keeping you subservient to their demands and those of big business.
And, most important. Be not swayed by their guile and propaganda. Nor intimidated by their threats and ruthlessness.
Above all, support your leaders in your millions and help make your life, your communities, your society, your country – how you want them to be. For yourselves, your children and their children’s children.
I am tempted to say, ‘good luck’. But ‘luck’ has no part to play in this. Throwing off the shackles of a status quo locked in a bygone age will require the resolute backing of millions, united in demanding a society more in keeping with the social values of the 21st century.
IT WILL TAKE GRIT AND DETERMINATION – NOT LUCK – TO WIN THE DAY !
SOLIDARITY ON A MASSIVE SCALE IS THE KEY!
WHATEVER THE PRICE –
IT PALES IN COMPARISON TO THE PRIZE!
No sense of common good:
It has taken a while for society to see through the harsh reality of the ‘look after number one’, built-in inequality of Conservatism and Right-wing ideology. An ideology with no sense of the common good.
A sense which, Societyism possess in abundance.
But it can’t be achieved without society’s support!

A BLIGHT ON MODERN SOCIETY:
A quick word on Brexit:
Clinging to the result of what fell short of a truly legitimate referendum taken some years ago, diehard Brexiteers would have the UK leave the EU, whatever the cost.
Such diehards of the day must not be allowed to dictate the future fate of society. The only truly binding, legitimate decision, being one taken coolly and calmly by the society of the day, based on emerging pros and cons, not hysteria and wild assertions. Anything less – a travesty.
The Brexit deal as it stands, more akin to leaping out of the Tory frying pan, into the flames and cauldron of global, corporate boardrooms.
And we all know who will and will not get burnED!
